This morning
I emailed Gov. Asa Hutchinson‘s spokesman to ask what the governor viewed as Marco Rubio‘s top accomplishment as a public official. Hutchinson recently endorsed Rubio; this question has been an awkward one for some previous Rubio endorsers.

I just received Hutchinson’s response. In full:

Marco is a leader on national security issues and a leading voice on the Senate Foreign Affairs and Intelligence Committee. He understands the national security challenges our country faces and that experience and expertise uniquely qualifies him to keep our country safe – the number one priority of a president. That, to me, is one of his most significant accomplishments while in the Senate. His legislation backs that up, as well.

His work against Hezbollah and Venezuela are good examples. Marco pressed for new sanctions that allowed the U.S. to penalize foreign banks known to work with Hezbollah, and he played a critical role in passing sanctions against Venezuela – against White House wishes at the time.

In addition to his national security background, following the scandal at the Department of Veterans Affairs, Marco pushed legislation that allowed careless and crooked VA managers to be fired. In 2013, Marco took the lead in blocking the White House’s attempt to use taxpayer dollars to bailout insurers that were losing money because of ObamaCare – which saved taxpayers $2.5 billion. To date, it remains one of the biggest Republican wins in the fight against Obamacare.

It’s not experience that will make Marco a good president – although he has plenty. It’s his policies, his understanding of national security concerns and his belief that America’s best days are still ahead.
