Bloomberg expands here on reports of investments by the Stephens family of Little Rock against the presidential candidacy of Donald Trump. Bonus track: Prog rock from one of the heirs to the Stephens fortune.
The article says that Warren Stephens, CEO of Stephens, Inc., and his brother, Jackson T. Stephens Jr., who has separate business interests, have contributed $3.5 million this year to PACs opposing Trump, on top of $500,000 last year.
The article notes the divergent interests of Steve Stephens, who’s been a heavy contributor to the Club For Growth.
Steve Stephens, who runs a biomedical company in Little Rock known as Exoxemis, is chairman of the Club. Reached by phone yesterday, he said he didn’t want to comment on his donations or on the subject of Donald Trump.
He did mention, however, that he’s a songwriter and keyboardist in a prog-rock band called Rayburn. He pointed to a 2012 number that he said “kind of expressed what I may feel about certain political types.”
It’s on Youtube, and it’s called “Keep the Change.” Listen above. Sample lyric:
You call your own shots
Breakin’ every law
Burning down what our fathers built.
