The Kansas Senate has approved legislation to allow impeachment of Supreme Court justices who “usurp” power of other branches.

The problem: The Kansas Supreme Court has held that state’s Constitution mandates school funding equity. (Ring a bell in Arkansas?)

In short, the Kansas Senate wants to remove justices that rule in ways they disapprove. Think Sen. Jason Rapert and any number of things he doesn’t like — abortion, gay people, etc.

Recent decisions by the Arkansas Supreme Court have been more considerate of legislative feelings, however.

The NY Times indicate this legislation won’t win final approval, but Gov. Sam Brownback is pushing a measure to give the governor more control over appointments, currently made from recommendations by lawyers in a merit system. Brownback, I guess, wants to do for the court what he has done to the Kansas budget — wreck it.
