KARK reports on a head-scratcher I heard about last night at Planned Parenthood’s annual fund-raiser:
The Jessieville Public School District had planned to provide district buses to take students during the school day to a local Church of Christ to participate in a National Day of Prayer.
The district had originally said participation was voluntary, but said buses would run at 8:15 and return at 10:15 a.m. for all students with a permission slip. A later announcement that the district would not be participating drew many comments on the school’s Facebook page.
Objections were raised and the district is now going to allow students to leave schools during the day to attend the event, but parents or church transportation must be provided.
The local Church of Christ preacher quoted on the KARK segment seems a little perturbed that the public school district has had to “bow down” to people “with an ax to grind for their personal preference.” As if ……
How about an excused absence for National Day at the Mosque?
Or better yet, how about going to school all day on a school day and let people go to church or not as they choose outside school hours?
