Little Rock police say one person was killed and a woman and child were wounded in a shooting about 7:30 a.m. this morning at an apartment complex at 6900 Cantrell Road.
Police said during an on-scene news conference that the mother and child were expected to survive. Details remain sketchy.
The apartment address might be familiar. The city sued in 2012 to declare the Valley Heights Apartments there a nuisance because of problems with noise, traffic and crime. A portion of the project later went into foreclosure and new owners of portions of the property subsequently took steps to clean things up.
UPDATE: Though victims have not been identified, police say they have a suspect in custody — Denzell Terrell Braud, 23, who lived at the complex. He was taken into custody nearby. He will be charged, police said, with capital murder and two counts each of attempted capital murder and battery.
UPDATE II: Cordarell Collins, 22, also a resident of the complex, was identified as the person killed. Alexis Davis, 21, and a a three-year-old were wounded. All are identified as occupants of the same apartment, but reports so far don’t indicate what led to the shooting. Police arrested Braud after he called them.
Channel 4 reports the woman has been released from the hospital, but the child remains in critical but stable condition.
