Rep. Greg Leding, inspired I think by some of the comment that has accompanied discussion of the $226 million Razorback Stadium expansion project including an op-ed by former UA student government president Billy Fleming, asked the Bureau of Legislative Reaearch to compare costs for lower-income students between the University of Arkansas and Harvard University.

Spoiler alert: Harvard, though it has a far higher sticker price, wins. (If you can get accepted.) It has a huge endowment and endeavors to ensure that family income isn’t a bar to qualified students.

The charts above show the bottom line for a student from a family of four with $60,000 in household income and $12,500 in assets, not counting home equity.

PS: UA  admits the majority of its applicants and an Arkansas high school graduate with an ACT of 23 is pretty well guaranteed admission. Harvard admits about 5 percent of 37,000 applicants. Average ACT: 34.

Leding says he hopes to draw some comparisons with others, such as Vanderbilt of the SEC.

PS: I’m pretty sure the Hogs can take the Crimson in football. But they had a pretty salty basketball team in 2015, knocked out of the NCAA in a two-point loss to UNC.
