Arkansas’s supply of a paralytic drug that is one of three used in the lethal injection process goes out of date today so Gov. Asa Hutchinson has ordered the Correction Department to find more, rather than devise an alternative execution method, AP reports. The drugs have become hard to obtain from conventional sources, one reason the legislature endeavored to keep sources a secret.
The governor had set execution dates for eight inmates, but they expired during court challenges. He hasn’t yet set new dates waiting for the effective date of the recent 4-3 decision by the Arkansas Supreme Court upholding the secrecy statute.
