This is good news. Sen. Bryan King’s bill to put the state Election Commission under Secretary of State Mark Martin’s office failed miserably today, drawing only seven aye votes against 15 nays.

As I’ve written before, Republican Election Commissioner Stu Soffer, among others, had lobbied hard against this bill because of the bad idea of putting election investigation and oversight in the sole hands of a partisan official period, never mind the dubious Mark Martin.
