The NRA says it expects an effort on the Arkansas Senate floor today to pull the campus carry bill from committee for a floor vote. Under Senate rules, only a majority vote is required, though the departure from committee system sometimes creates heartburn among even members friendly to a proposition.
Competing measures in committee yesterday couldn’t advance. The NRA now backs a campus carry bill that allows any concealed weapon permit holder to go on a college campus if they have an additional eight hours of training. The bill further opens places previously closed to concealed carry. The hardliners prefer few, if any, restrictions on where you may carry a gun.
Indeed, a motion to extract the bill is on the Senate calendar.
