It’s a beautiful day. And to those who say there’s never any good news, don’t forget somebody in Stuttgart with a slip of paper in his or her pocket worth $60 million or so after taxes.

My own personal favorite good news of the week — after the uplift of Sen. Stephanie Flowers’ takedown of gun nut Trent Garner on the floor of the Senate Friday following his reference to a “God-given right” to carry a gun — is news from Florida that my personal favorite animal, the bulldog of the aquatic world, the manatee, is no longer on the government’s endangered list, upgraded to threatened.

Here’s a link to Sen.Flowers floor speech, during the debate over the bill to provide a Razorback football exemption from a bill that otherwise hugely expanded the places you can take guns in Arkansas. Flowers voted for closing the door to guns at college athletic events, the State Hospital and UAMS. But she was unhappy about the larger push for more guns.

And here’s more on the manatees, should you share my fascination.
