Lt. Gov. Tim Griffin announced today that he’d hired David Ray, who’d been the director of the Koch-backed Americans for Prosperity’s affiliate in Arkansas, as his deputy chief of staff and communications director.
He succeeds Katie Grygar, who moved out of state. Ray said he’d be paid the same amount Grygar received, $70,000.
Ray referred me to AFP for future leadership of that organization, which has been active in legislative lobbying, particularly against taxes, and in influencing state legislative races, with notable success in past years in the state Senate. Ray’s past political experience includes communications for Sen. Tom Cotton’s 2014 campaign and for the Arkansas Republican Party.
UPDATE: Teresa Crossland Oelke responded with a note to my query about future leadership:
Phillip Joffrion (Regional Director) and myself will be covering state as we look for a new State Director. While we are sorry to see him go, we happy for him in his new role and are sure to work with him in the LG office. David did a great job and he will be missed.
