Secretary of State Mark Martin, whose duties include overseeing state elections and looking after the Capitol, has always had a penchant for foreign diplomacy. He’s at it again, based on Twitter posts, this time parleying with Cuban officials.
Cabanas is the Cuban ambassador to the United States. Martin retweeted the Cabanas post, made Tuesday, and commented:
Thank you, Mr. Ambassador. Glad to be a part of building relationships between our two countries.
I’m seeking details about the meeting.
UPDATE: This summary of the trip from an office spokesman:
The Secretary was invited to Washington, DC with representatives from World Trade Center Arkansas, including their Director of Latin America Trade. They are meeting with the ambassadors of Canada, Mexico, and Cuba, trade organization representatives, U.S. government officials from the Commerce Department and U.S. Trade Representative. They will conclude the trip with briefings and discussion of their meetings with members of the Arkansas congressional delegation.
The spokesman said Martin’s trip would be paid by his office.
I was in Havana a few weeks ago. I, too, found cordial Cubans. They included a friendly woman I met
OK, yeah, and I also saw a lot of fine old cars.
UPDATE: Mark Martin gripped and grinned with Mexican representatives, too.
