Says here that the Arkansas Highway Commission voted today to take a plan to voters to raise more money for highways in 2018.
Still to be determined: How much more money they want, how, specifically, they propose to raise it.

Prediction: The people who drive the vehicles that do the least damage to roads (and maybe even a lot of taxpayers who don’t own cars at all) will shoulder a disproportionate share of whatever burden is devised.
Nobody asked, but I think they should ask voters for the measure that couldn’t get the extraordinary vote necessary to pass the legislature — putting the state sales tax on the wholesale price of fuel. Simple and flexible and applied to road users.
