LaTonya Austin, who has a private Little Rock law practice, has announced she’ll be a candidate for the open Little Rock District Court criminal division seat next yeat. The seat is vacant because of Alice Lightle’s resignation. Deputy Prosecutor Melanie Martin announced her candidacy earlier.

Austin, a graduate of the University of Arkansas and the UALR Law School, has been a prosecutor and also worked in the city attorney’s office. She’s been in the news for fines assessed against the city for her late filings in civil cases she was defending for the city.
