The U.S. attorney’s office says James Edgerson, 39, of Dumas has been sentenced to 135 months in prison for his role in a drug conspiracy while a Dumas police officer.

Edgerson, then a police officer, and five others were indicted in 2015 for conspiring to distribute meth, cocaine and marijuana. He pleaded guilty in February. He also admitted to possessing a firearm and abusing his police position.

Edgerson admitted buying and selling drugs while a cop from May 2015 through September 2015. He did one deal standing next to his police cruiser.  Three others have pleaded guilty and one defendant is awaiting trial in September.
