NO TICKETS: When police are driving city cars.

The city of Little Rock has responded to blogger Russ Racop’s questions about the fact that police officers, including Chief Kenton Buckner, had not received tickets in recent traffic incidents.

City Manager Bruce Moore has prepared the city policy in detail. City employees are supposed to report accidents in city vehicles and they are reviewed by the chain of command.  Drug and alcohol testing is required in case of serious damage or personal injury. He said that policy was followed in Buckner’s own accidents.

The memo notes that State Police, North Little Rock police and the Pulaski sheriff’s office also don’t ticket officers in similar accidents.

This doesn’t address the question of accidents in private vehicles. Dozens of Little Rock police are able to use public vehicles to commute, sometimes to distant homes.
