City Director Doris Wright tells me today she was unable to attend Saturday’s news conference about the nightclub shooting because she was out of town for a high school class reunion.
Also absent were Directors Erma Hendrix and Ken Richardson, who’ve not yet responded to my questions about their absences. Hendrix represents the ward in which Power
I asked Wright for her thoughts about events. Her response:
First this this type of behavior is unacceptable and hurts not only the victims but the entire city; Second, we as the governing authority need to enforce our laws already on the books; and third, we need to send a message to our parents that they must supervise their children. We can begin to send this message by implementing a curfew for our youth as a preventative and protective strategy. Then holding the parents accountable when the curfew is violated.
Little Rock already has a curfew ordinance that prevents those under 18 from being on streets without adults after 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and midnight Friday and Saturday. It is rarely enforced.
