PLAYGROUND BURNING: At Gibbs. Screen shot from KTHV video

Another Little Rock School District playground fire, this one about 5:45 p.m. Friday at Gibbs Elementary on W. 16th next door to the Dunbar community center.

The fire marshal is investigating, but no further word on the cause. I received a message from the PTA overnight saying, not to worry, the playground would be repaired for the start of school. KARK’s report said one piece of equipment and an awning appear to have been damaged.

Fond memories. I pitched in on a PTA project to improve the playground back when my kids went to Gibbs in the 1980s and 1990s. This is at least the third playground fire at a district school in the last year or so.
