Attorney General Leslie Rutledge today announced an on-line program aimed at discouraging high school students from becoming addicted to prescription drugs.

Arkansas is a leader in drug abuse by children 12 to 17 Rutledge said. Prescription for Life is an on-line course to be available in high schools this fall at no charge.  A release said the course would be aligned with Centers for Disease Control and state academic standards and provide information to help youths make healthy decisions about drugs.

The program includes video, animation, simulations and interactive elements. Teachers will receive training and efforts will be made to measure the impact of the course.

UPDATE: A Rutledge spokesman said the program costs $150,000 and is being purchased from a company called Everfi with funds won in lawsuit settlements by the state.
