DALE BARTLETT Arkansas Business

Arkansas Business reports that hot check charges have been filed against co-owners of Turner Grain Merchandising, the failed Brinkley commodities brokerage firm that went into bankruptcy with almost $40 million in debts.

The failure has been the subject of extensive civil court proceedings. Monroe County Prosecuting Attorney Baxter Sharp also had asked for a State Police investigation of complaints from farmers that they’d been given hot checks for their crops. The results:

Co-owner Jason Coleman, 42, of Greenbrier, faces six felony hot check counts and one count of theft by deception related to $1.2 million worth of hot checks. Co-owner Dale Bartlett of Marvell has been charged with one count of writing a hot check that Coleman also signed for $401,900.  Bartlett told Arkansas Business the check was forged, but the interview by phone apparently was truncated because Bartlett was at the Brinkley Police Department. Coleman wasn’t available for comment.
