Two of Arkansas’ major metropolitan areas are Little Rock and Fayetteville, but if you rush from point A to point B, you’ll miss out on a lot of great Arkansas sights. Here’s just a handful of worthwhile stops to make on the drive from Little Rock to Fayetteville!

Altus Wineries

You don’t have to go to California for a wine tour – we have a wine trail right here in our backyard. Several of Arkansas’ wineries are located in Altus, which is just barely off the path from Little Rock to Fayetteville. Stop by Altus to see how your favorite Arkansas wines are made, or for a sip of wine and a snack at the tasting rooms.

Oark General Store

You’ll have to take a bit of a scenic route to get to the Oark General Store, but when you’re driving through the Ozark mountains, is that a bad thing? The Oark General Store is one of the oldest restaurants in Arkansas – it originated in 1890 – and they serve home-cooked meals seven days a week from sun-up to sun-down.

Rivertowne BBQ

For barbecue fans, a visit to Rivertowne BBQ in Ozark is a must. Located just a few blocks from the Arkansas River, Rivertowne is full of charm. Long-time fans say their tender ribs are a must-eat, but from the looks of their menu, you can’t go wrong with anything you order.

Fort Smith National Historic Site

For history buffs, Fort Smith is a stop that shouldn’t be overlooked. You can see the remains of two frontier forts, view the famed Fort Smith gallows, and visit the Trail of Tears overlook — and that’s just the short list.
