The office of Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson issued a release this morning, saying that the Governor has authorized the deployment of 1,500 Arkansas National Guardsmen to Texas, where they will assist with cleanup and recovery efforts in the wake of Hurricane Harvey. The deployment could last up to a month. Troops are scheduled to depart for Texas tomorrow.

The Arkansas National Guard said that both soldiers and airmen will deploy from around the state. In South Texas, two Blackhawk helicopters and approximately 10 soldiers with the Guard’s 77th Aviation Wing will conduct airborne search and rescue; 15 soldiers and airmen with the 61st Civil Support Team will conduct air, water and soil sampling in cooperation with local authorities to check for the presence of toxins, and a Mobile Emergency Operations Center will be delivered and deployed by the 189th Airlift Wing.
