The state’s unemployment rate increased slightly in August, the Arkansas Department of Workforce Services said Friday. The July figure was 3.4 percent, a record low. It ticked upward to 3.5 percent last month.
The press release states that “the movement in the jobless rate mirrored the trend seen at the national level.” The U.S. unemployment rate stands at 4.5 percent. Both the state and the national figures reflect a 0.5 percent drop since August 2016.
Of course, all the typical caveats about the limitations of the unemployment rate as a metric still apply.
