UPDATE: The Correction Department reported injuries to guards at two prison units today.

The Correction Department said a correctional officer at the Tucker Maximum Security unit was injured about 1:50 p.m. today when assaulted by an inmate in a housing area.

The officer suffered multiple injuries to face and head and was taken to a hospital for treatment. The State Police were notified.

That’s the extent of the information provided in a prepared release.

Later, the Department issued a release about an assault at the Varner Unit. The statement in full:

At approximately 4:20 p.m. today, two correctional officers working at the Varner Unit, in Grady, AR, were assaulted by several inmates. One officer sustained multiple lacerations and the second sustained a single injury. They were both transported to an area hospital.

Arkansas State Police was notified and is on-site.
