We got an update yesterday on progress by the medical marijuana commission in working through applications to cultivate or sell medical marijuana under new state law.

Scott Hardin, a spokesman for the Department of Finance and Administration, said the staff has made it through 98 cultivation applications and notified several that didn’t meet minimum requirements on such issues as residency or tax payment history. Those decisions aren’t final until a commission vote. The review of dispensary applications is also underway.

The commission is scheduled to meet at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 16. When the applications are presented to the commission for review, they will become public documents, Hardin said.

The commission received 322 applications. It may award 32 permit for dispensaries and five for cultivation facilities.
