CHIEF BUCKNER: Describing events at club that ended in suspect's death.

A suspect was killed and two police officers suffered injuries after police responded to a disturbance this morning at a late-hours club at 1501 North University Avenue.

KARK reports what’s been released by police so far. The suspect was shot at by officers, but it wasn’t immediately clear if he was struck by gunfire or if his death came from a vehicle crash. The suspect’s vehicle crashed into a brick wall around the parking lot. Officers suffered unspecified injuries, apparently from being struck by the vehicle, but Chief Kenton Buckner said they weren’t believed to be life-threatening.

An officer working off-duty called for a backup about 4 a.m. to help with a disturbance at the Local Union, a restaurant and club on the ground floor of the high-rise Prospect Building just south of Cantrell Road. The police, as has become customary, have released few details about specifics of the incident or names of the dead suspect or officers.
