Looks like my prayers for election year zaniness have been answered. Jan Morgan, the Hot Springs gun nut who burst into national view by declaring her business off-limits to Muslims, is sounding more and more like a Republican gubernatorial candidate in 2018.
See her Facebook post this morning outlining all the perfidious actions done by that well-known liberal, Republican Gov. Asa Hutchinson.
She also said in another post she’d announce
She’s aligned with the far, far right Conduit for Action and her shtick is reminiscent of the disruption Steve Bannon and his ilk think possible in Republican congressional and Senate primaries.
I doubt it in this case. Asa is no liberal. His poll numbers are good. We generally like our incumbents. Morgan is wacky. Somebody will soon raise the possibility of ratf***ing by Democrats — that is crossing over in the primary to vote for Morgan so a nut will be the GOP nominee. That requires far too much strategery and nuance on an electorate already hard to motivate to vote. I, for one, won’t give up my vote in a contested Democratic primary race for
Not that Morgan is without some points. But she is also a hypocrite. She criticizes allocation of GIF money to private colleges, singling out three black colleges in Pulaski County but overlooking the felonious handout in which some hard-right Republicans participated to benefit a lily-white Bible college in Springdale.
But the Trump template is there in Morgan’s writing. Hutchinson hasn’t been hard enough on the gays and the transgenders; he once took a meeting with gun control advocates; he wouldn’t sign a meaningless anti-Sharia law bill; he’s supported the continuation of the Obamacare Medicaid expansion. Any Democrats likely to cross over, it seems to me, would be hard-pressed not to vote for Asa to be sure they didn’t get stuck with someone much worse.
Morgan’s battle cry:
*We vote for tax cuts and end up with tax increases.
*We vote for regulatory relief and end up with new regulatory burdens.
*We vote for representative government but end up with politics-as-usual…by elected officials who seem better at protecting their job than creating a job for you.
I don’t know about you, but I’ve had enough!
So, I’m going to be exploring a run against our sitting Governor…who campaigns like a conservative Republican but governs like a liberal Democrat.
He talks like your best friend, then performs like your worst enemy!
If you agree the swamp in Little Rock is infested with the same type critters crawling around the swamp in Washington…then let’s talk about what we can do together to send them a message that we’re coming to drain the swamp!
Asa as Luther Strange and Jan as Roy Moore? I’m not inclined to think so, but I claim no insight into the mind of the Arkansas Republican primary voter.
