The on-line sports world has concluded that SMU football coach Chad Morris is going to be the next football coach at the University of Arkansas and that an announcement is expected today.

Here’s some background on Morris, in his third year at SMU and heading to a bowl game.

UA Chancellor Joseph Steinmetz has a news conference at 10 a.m. this morning to introduce new athletic director Hunter Yurachek. Perhaps it will be a twofer, with Morris a surprise addition.

Or, who knows, maybe a threefer. Some think Morris might reach out to a former colleague, Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables, to join the Hog staff.

Remember: The only sure thing is Yurachek at this moment.

If this pans out, it means the university administration ignored demands of some fans and sportswriters by hiring without priority consideration for Arkansas roots.

UPDATE: Yurachek met the press alone. He said he’d once been interested in Chad Morris. Meanwhile AP reports, quoting sources, that Morris HAS been hired by UA with a six-year contract.
