The State Police have announced the filing of a murder charge against a Logan County man in the death of a child Thursday morning in a house fire in Paris.

Ricky Carter, 27, was charged with first-degree murder and arson.

According to a State Police release, police responded to a loud noise at the house on South Elm. Officers found the house on fire. Paris police and Carter, who was staying at the residence, carried four children out of the house. Carter and three children weren’t hurt. A two-year-old child was pronounced dead at a hospital.

The state Crime Lab is investigating the manner and cause of death and State Police offered no details on what led to the filing of the murder charge.
