Little Rock schools are closed again today and state government is on a two-hour delayed schedule on account of continuing poor road conditions in some places.

If you live downtown, this might seem surprising. When I drove home from work yesterday, downtown streets, and even most sidewalks, were clear. But then I had to traverse the north-facing hill down to my house below the Ozark Point water treatment plant and things got a good bit trickier. This morning, with the thermometer at 8, conditions had not improved. My own street, as shown above, is slick with a coating of ice. I suspect those coming to state jobs from south of town — as thousands do — face difficult conditions from heavier snows yesterday.

The city of Little Rock says it, too, will operate on a delayed schedule and promises garbage pickups will resume, already delayed a day by the King holiday. I’ll roll my green monster to the street, but ……
