The Legislative Council today signed off without discussion on a Plant Board rule to ban the use of the herbicide dicamba between April 16 and Oct. 31.

Great controversy has attended use of the chemical. Other farmers say it has drifted onto and damaged other crops. A legislative subcommittee had given a favorable review to the rule earlier this week.

Monsanto, the maker of the chemical, has gone to court to stop the rule from taking effect.
