A driver who fled a traffic stop early Sunday morning by driving into the parking deck of Regions Bank and jumping over a barrier on the second floor to a ramp below is in critical but stable condition at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, Little Rock police said.
An incident report said an officer sought to stop a car with a headlight out at 1:50 a.m. Sunday at Fourth and Spring streets. The driver, later identified as Eugene Carl Boykins Jr., 35, of Pine Bluff, drove into the bank’s deck, stopped on the second floor and got out. According to the report, the man approached the officer, and when he didn’t stop as ordered the officer drew his weapon. The man then turned and ran toward the parking deck barrier and jumped. The officer ran down the deck ramp to where the man fell and began CPR. The officer also suffered a slight injury when he slipped on the wet ramp. An ambulance transported the man to UAMS.
Two women in the vehicle, one of whom had a traffic warrant out of Pine Bluff, were taken to the 12th Street substation for interviews. A loaded pistol was discovered under the driver’s seat of the car.
