President Trump has promised to support congressional efforts to protect states that have legalized marijuana, according to Sen. Cory Gardner (R-Colorado), the Washington Post reports.

In January, the Justice Department rescinded the Cole memo, an Obama-era legal guidance that discouraged enforcement of federal marijuana restrictions on states where cannabis had been legalized. Attorney General Jeff Sessions instead directed U.S. attorneys to use prosecutorial discretion.

This new policy, not surprisingly, made folks who’ve been involved in medical marijuana in Arkansas and elsewhere nervous.

Gardner, whose home state legalized recreational marijuana in 2014, reacted by promising to block all Justice Department nominations. Now, in a statement, he says Trump has promised him the Justice Department’s new policy wouldn’t impact Colorado. Gardner also said that Trump said he would support a legislative solution to protect states that have legalized marijuana from a federal crackdown.
