Bloomberg reports
that Walmart has settled a dispute with labor activists over workers who were punished for wearing union insignia while trying to organize:

The agreement, obtained by Bloomberg News, forces Walmart to publicly acknowledge in some of its California stores that it violated federal labor law and to stop threatening workers who support strikes or organization efforts.

The settlement — reached by the retailer, the National Labor Relations Board and advocacy group OUR Walmart — will also wipe out disciplinary actions taken against six employees in its Richmond, California-based store who staged a peaceful protest in 2012. Walmart must additionally drop an employee dress code that bans clothing bearing union insignia.

Bloomberg speculates that the retail behemoth, which has long fought to stop unions from organizing its workers, may be more open to deals reached by the NLRB under the Trump administration.

More Walmart news, from earlier in the week: On Wednesday the company announced the $16 billion purchase of a 77 percent stake in Flipkart, an e-commerce rival to Amazon in India. Walmart, which recently retreated from the grocery business in Europe, has long been rumored to be eyeing more investments in India. Investors apparently thought Walmart overpaid, as its stock price dipped after the announcement.
