Simmons First National Bank will make a “multimillion-dollar gift” to the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff for its football and sports facilities, the bank and UAPB announced today.

The gift will be the largest in the university’s history. The UA System Board of Trustees is expected to OK the gift at its meeting May 23-24.

Simmons will announce the specifics at a “tailgate-style reception” at Golden Lions Stadium next Tuesday, May 22, at 11 a.m. The event will be attended by UAPB Chancellor Dr. Laurence B. Alexander; UAPB interim director of athletics Alyse Wells-Kilbert; Simmons CEO and chairman George A. Makris; Simmons community president Daniel Robinson; UAPB head football coach Cedric Thomas; and UAPB head baseball coach Carlos James.

Good news for UAPB and for Pine Bluff as a whole.
