Donald Trump’s summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un produced the expected reactions and tribal chants.
Trump was proud. His supporters were effusive (Arkansas campaign chair Bud Cummins tweeted that he was so excited, as well as about the Razorback team, that he couldn’t sleep.) Detractors said the meeting produced little of immediate substance and were quick to remind that Trump was dealing with a murderer. Some veteran foreign affairs experts said it was too soon to judge, which seems clear enough. Some say Trump came away with nothing while Kim scored propaganda triumph.
But out of the Twitter storm of takes, this one struck me because it was reminiscent of the white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, when Trump famously said there were “some very fine people on both sides.” This from the Tokyo bureau chief of the Washington Post, who, by the way, had ongoing commentary worth a look.
Trump on North Korea's human rights abuses: "It's a rough situation over there… It's rough in a lot of places, not just there."

Some people and places ARE worse than others.
