More bad news on global climate: The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, convened by the United Nations, “describes a world of worsening food shortages and wildfires, and a mass die-off of coral reefs as soon as 2040 — a period well within the lifetime of much of the global population.”

Avoiding the cataclysm, says the New York Times report, will require “transforming the world economy at a speed and scale that has ‘no documented historic precedent.'”

Here in Darkansas, we are not worried. Attorney General Leslie Rutledge (not to mention the rest of Republican officialdom, the Arkansas State Chamber of Commerce and the Farm Bureau) says this climate change stuff is all balderdash. Pour on the coal at the power plants and don’t worry about scrubbing the pollutants! We’re good!

PS: Here’s a Washington Post account of the same study. Perhaps even more dire.

Speaking of the horrors of a baking globe: see this story about a drought-afflicted part of Australia where the future is now.
