The state Correction Department has called State Police to investigate another case of an inmate found dead in a cell.

The release:

PINE BLUFF – Yesterday afternoon at approximately 2:55 p.m., staff at the Maximum Security Unit in Tucker found David Mulkey #109664 unresponsive in his assigned cell. Inmate Mulkey was taken to the unit infirmary where he was pronounced dead at 3:10 p.m.

The Arkansas State Police (ASP) was immediately notified and responded to the Unit. ASP will be conducting an investigation into the death. The Department of Correction will be conducting an internal investigation in to the death.

The prisons have been plagued by deaths related to illegal drugs.

Mulkey was serving a life sentence for killing his former stepmother in 1996.
