For the second time this week, the state Correction Department has announced the death of an inmate at the Tucker Maximum Security unit that has prompted a call for a State Police review.

This is the only information released:

This morning, at approximately 1:57 a.m., staff at the Maximum Security Unit in Tucker found Inmate Dan Shelton #100112 unresponsive in his assigned cell. Responding medical staff began onsite emergency medical treatment before transporting Inmate Shelton to the unit infirmary. Inmate Shelton was pronounced dead at 2:16 a.m. in the infirmary.

The Arkansas State Police (ASP) was immediately notified and responded to the Unit. ASP will be conducting an investigation into the death. The Department of Correction will be conducting an internal investigation in to the death.

Shelton, 53, has been serving time since 1992 on multiple charges from Jefferson and Pulaski County including a 40-year term as a habitual offender on a kidnapping charge.
