Democrat Clarke Tucker has issued ads asking Republican Rep. French Hill about his lack of decency after running ads linking Tucker to the MS-13 gang — non-existent by word or deed in Tucker’s political life and also non-existent in Arkansas. The answer is in a new Hill ad.

The screenshot from the ad shows a Hill ad that says a vote for Tucker will put the “liberal mob” in power. The Trumpian language is based on what? Is Tucker going to send his 92-year-old Nana to Washington with a rock-filled handbag to clock French’s silk stocking mob? More likely is that he’d continue the moderate, conciliatory, compromising demeanor that has marked his four years in the Arkansas legislature. There he was able to achieve some small victories despite his minority status.

I think this race is closer than people think and I think HIll has numbers that reflect it. I think you see it in Hill’s unrelenting negative attacks on Tucker and in the huge sums pouring in from outside groups to help him. You are not seeing this reaction by incumbents in other Arkansas districts (noble and worthy as Democratic challengers Hayden Shamel, Josh Mahony and Chintan Desai are.)

Update: Tucker said:

“French Hill’s attack ad is simply irresponsible.

“I’ve been trying to campaign on getting health care access for Arkansans, and bringing better-paying jobs to our community. It’s truly disappointing to see my opponent sink so low into the gutter. Frankly, it’s unbefitting of a representative.”
