Newsweek and other news organizations are reporting that at least five of the Republican senators who voted against ending support for the Saudi-led war in Yemen received donations from Saudi lobbyists. They include Arkansas Sen. John Boozman.

Newsweek reports donations to Boozman as $1,000 from a political action committee working for Saudi Arabia and around $2,000 “on days when they were contacted by Saudi lobbyists.”

The Senate acted after President Trump indicated he would not take steps against Saudi Arabia despite the murder of dissident Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

The other four Republicans who voted against the resolution to allow a Senate vote on the issue were Sens. Roy Blunt of Missouri, Richard Burr of North Carolina, Mike Crapo of Idaho and Tim Scott of South Carolina. No Democrats voted against the resolution, which passed 63-37, with 14 Republicans joining the Democrats.

Politico reported that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Defense Secretary Jim Mattis tried to persuade the Senate to hold off on the resolution.

I’ve asked Boozman’s office for a response, but am still waiting.
