North Little Rock police announced the arrest yesterday of Nathaniel Smith III on charges of capital murder, in connection to a ten-year-old cold case.
Smith, 36, of Little Rock, faces charges of murder in the 2008 shooting death of Timothy Nichols.

On June 14th 2008 Officers with the North Little Rock Police Department responded to a call for shots fired at the intersection of W. 15th and Crutcher Streets. When officers arrived on scene they located Mr. Nichols who was deceased. Mr. Nichols’s cause of death was a gunshot wound and the manner of death was ruled a Homicide.
The investigation was transferred to the North Little Rock Police Department’s Cold Case Unit. After further investigation by the Cold Case Unit, the case file was submitted to the Pulaski County Prosecutors Office for review. The review resulted in a warrant being issued for the arrest of Nathaniel Smith III on charges of Capital Murder.
Smith surrendered to police after learning of the warrant for his arrest, and was transported to the Pulaski County Detention Center, where he is currently being held with no bail set. His initial court appearance is set for Wednesday, Dec. 26.
