The Arkansas Poor People’s Campaign plans to show up at the State Capitol Monday afternoon for the first day of the 2019 legislative session. Campaign co-chairs Dr. Anika Whitfield and Solomon Burchfield tell me the group will be a “moral presence” to call on elected officials to promote a moral agenda in Arkansas and will deliver a letter to Governor Hutchinson and the legislature calling for “justice for the poor, care for the sick, stewardship of the ecology, and welcome for the immigrant and refugee.”

Rebekah Hall wrote about the history of the Poor People’s Campaign in October. The group had originally planned a rally for tomorrow, but it was cancelled after Rev. Dr. William Barber II was unable to attend due to a death in his family.
