Education Secretary Betsy DeVos last week introduced a plan for a $5 billion federal tax credit that would fund scholarships to private schools. States would be able to opt in to a program that would provide dollar-for-dollar tax credits to private donors (corporate or individual) who contributed to scholarship funds that helped pay for private school tuition, or other education programs. It’s a convoluted scheme to federally fund private school vouchers.
“The Trump plan is both common sense and genius,” Lieutenant Governor Tim Griffin opined on Fox News today.
In one revealing moment, Griffin said, “I’m for charter schools, I’m for home schooling, I’m for private schools.” Traditional public schools? I guess not.
“The teacher’s unions are on the losing side of history,” Griffin said.
