Hillary Clinton appeared on Rachel Maddow’s show on MSNBC last night and has stirred the Internet with the joking suggestion that Democrats should enlist China in 2020 to hack into Donald Trump tax returns.

Talking Points Memo recounts:

Imagine, Rachel, that you had one of the Democratic nominees for 2020 on your show,” she said, during an interview with MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow Wednesday. “And that person said, ‘you know, the only other adversary of ours who is anywhere near as good as the Russians is China. So why should Russia have all the fun? And since Russia is clearly backing Republicans, why don’t we ask China to back us. … And not only that, China, if you’re listening, why don’t you get Trump’s tax returns? I’m sure our media would richly reward you.’ Now, according to the Mueller report, that is not conspiracy, because it’s done right out in the open.”

Clearly, it was a joke. Surprise. Many are not receiving it that way.

Meanwhile, Trump’s personal lawyer, William Barr, is refusing to appear before a House committee to talk about his misleading representation of the Mueller report and Republicans are gearing up to turn attention to, what else, Hillary’s e-mails. Maybe they should throw in Barack Obama’s birth certificate and another Benghazi hearing or three for good measure.
