KSLA in Shreveport reports that Fonda Hawthorne, a former Democratic state legislator from Ashdown, was sentenced today in Little River Circuit Court to four months in prison for stealing money from the Little River Chamber of Commerce, which she once headed.

The prosecutor said Hawthorne, 62, had said a drinking problem contributed to her theft by using a chamber credit card for personal expenses between $5,000 and $25,000. She also will have five years of probation after the prison sentence.
