A federal court will hear arguments on Monday in a case brought by the ACLU and Planned Parenthood challenging state laws that ban or restrict abortions.

The lawsuit seeks to block Act 493, which bans abortions starting at 18 weeks; Act 619, which bans women from seeking abortions due to determinations that the fetus has Down Syndrome; and Act 700, which prohibits otherwise qualified physicians from providing abortions if they are not board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology, thereby severely limiting abortion access in the state.

Attorney General Leslie Rutledge argued in a court filing this week that the laws were “common sense.”

Arguments will begin 9:00 a.m. Monday in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas.
