The Saracen Casino, the new casino run by the Quapaw tribe and set to open next year in Pine Bluff, will host a ground breaking event on August 5. Construction on the project began last month.

A 2018 constitutional amendment legalized existing casinos at Southland and Oaklawn parks and allowed two additional casinos, one each in Jefferson and Pope counties. The Arkansas Racing Commission approved the license for the Saracen Casino in June.

Construction of the casino and resort has an estimated price tag of $350 million.

The commission rejected all five applicants for the casino in Pope county in June and yesterday delayed a decision on the appeal of Gulfside Casino Partnership, one of the rejected applicants.
