UAMS: Gets a grant of $1 million to expand digital health care.

Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield has provided a grant of $1 million to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences to improve statewide patient access to its digital health care through the UAMS Institute for Digital Health.

The initial investment will go to urgent care, to allow patients to consult with medical professionals by phone or live video to see if they need immediate care. The second phase will focus on ways to provide primary care and certain specialties. The services should be available by early 2021.

UAMS unveiled an interactive digital-health interpretive wall on the first floor of the UAMS Medical Center along with today’s announcement of the grant. The grant honors Dr. Mahlon O. Maris of Harrison for his long career in providing health care in rural Arkansas.
