ROBERT LEVY. Washington County jail photo.

U.S. Attorney DAK Kees of Fayetteville announced today that he planned a news conference Tuesday afternoon to discuss the “arrest of Dr. Robert Morris Levy.”

The announcement included no other information.

Robert Levy, 53, was booked into the Washington County jail in Fayetteville today with a notation that he was being held for federal authorities.

Dr. Robert Morris Levy was fired in 2018 by the Veterans Healthcare System of the Ozarks. Reports since have alleged he  worked impaired as chief pathologist at the system, which includes a medical center  in Fayetteville. A review of cases during his more than 12-year tenure at the VA found 30 serious missed diagnoses, including some cases in which deaths occurred. He has said he worked impaired in 2016, but not since then, according to this Democrat-Gazette account. The case spurred inspector general and criminal investigations.

Levy told the Associated Press in 2018 that he’d been fired over a DUI arrest that was ultimately dismissed.
